Dryden Council has passed a resolution asking the federal government to keep the Experimental Lakes area open.
The motion is now being sent to various officials including the Prime Minister.
Council says the ELA is “one of a kind” and is not that costly to keep open.
They stress it is used by researchers around the world and has been a popluar attraction for area youth.
Council agreed that this isn’t partisian politics, it’s a matter of keeping an important service available in our area.
Mayor Craig Nuttall abstained from voting noting that he didn’t want to be in conflict of interest with the Federal Government.
Nuttall says he’s taking a wait and see approach on what the Federal Government plans to do with the Experimental Lakes area.
Nuttall says he’s been told that the Feds are looking at options to keep it open.
