People who claim they were abused under the provincial government’s care decades ago will have their day in court.
A Thunder Bay judge has decided that a $100-million class action lawsuit can go forward.
Toni Grann, who is involved in the class action, alleges the province let them down.
Grann says the government took them from situations that were bad and put them in situations that were far worse.
She says their stories are “horrific”.
Lawyer Chris Watkins says the Ontario government failed to protect the legal rights of abused children dating back to 1966.
Watkins says the victims suffered physical and sexual abuse, bullying and harassment.
Justice Helen Pierce made her decision on March 30th certifying the motion as a class action.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
