Officials in Atikokan refuse to give up hope that the Province will
decide to keep the coal fired plant open and burning something different.
A special public meeting will be held at the Atikokan Legion at 7 Tuesday night to give residents an update on how Council is responding to the
planned closure.
Mayor Dennis Brown says 15 projects are being considered if the
Province follows through with its plan to close the plant in
2007.
Brown says they are speaking with a group that is interested in
keeping the plant open by supplying peat.
He adds they are also looking at tourism opportunities and
attracting more government jobs.
