Coal Plant to Close

Months of lobbying and pleading has fallen on deaf ears.
The Atikokan Coal-Fired Generating Station will close in 2007, while
Ontario’s biggest polluter on Lake Erie will stay open until 2009.
Energy Minister Dwight Duncan says he will work with the Township to minimize the impact and notes the Premier has assigned 14-Ministers to work with the community.
Duncan claims the size of the Atikokan Plant makes it a challenge to
keep it open from a transmission stand-point.
