Colin William Henderson

Colin William Henderson
April 12, 1949 – July 4, 2016

It is with great sadness the family of Colin Henderson announces his sudden passing on July 4, 2016. Colin is survived by his daughter Melissa and her daughter Kelly; brothers Frank (Edna), Krag (Chauntelle); sister-in-law Joan; step children Chuck, Kim (Wade), Rob (Janet), Shelley (Ken); grandchildren Chris, Scott, Kelsey (Dave), Ricki-Lee (Ryan), Daniel; numerous nieces and nephews; several great neices and nephews; one great-great neice; and very good friends Steve and Jack. He was predeceased by his parents William and Grace; daughter Alison; true love Jeanette; brothers Bruce and Chris; step-son Rick; and step father Jesse Schmidt.

Colin grew up in Dryden with his four brothers. As a Henderson boy he was always up to something and was better known as one of the Monkey twins. At a young age he left Dryden to work the mine in Red Lake. Following his time spent in Red Lake he continued working in various mines in the Northwest Territories, Yukon, British Columbia, and Northwestern Ontario.

As a young man Colin met and married his first wife and they had two daughters, Alison and Melissa. He spent the next decade working in British Columbia. Upon returning home to Dryden he married Jeanette and watched as his family instantly expand. Colin immediately accepted Jeanette’s children and grandchildren as his own. His grandchildren Christopher, Scott, Kelsey, Ricki-Lee, and Daniel were the apples of his eye- he was so proud of all of them. He joyfully attended numerous school concerts, karate competitions, and hockey tournaments.

Colin loved spending time at the family camps on Thunder Lake, going on spontaneous gambling trips with Jeanette and his Mom, Grace, and his Nintendo and card games. Colin spent many afternoons with great friends Steve and Jack playing Euchre at the Legion and visiting with old friends at the Central.

As a very kind and gentle man with a wonderful sense of humour he will be greatly missed. Enjoy your final stroll, Colin.

A service to celebrate Colin’s life will be held Monday July 11th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dryden Legion with Pastor Velma Henderson officiating. Everyone is invited to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 63 for a luncheon to follow to share stories.

If friends desire donations may be made to DRHC Palliative Care or Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 63 through the Stevens Funeral Homes P.O. Box 412, Dryden ON P8N 2Z1. Condolences may be posted at www.stevensfuneralhomes.ca
