‘Community Well Being Plan’ Underway In Dryden Area

A community group, with representation from police, education, health and social services, has started work on developing a ‘Well Being Plan’ for the Dryden area.

Steering Committee Co-Chair Ann Tkachyk says they want to be aggressive to reach and help those dealing with poverty, addictions, mental health and homelessness.

Tkachyk says the ultimate goal is making Dryden a strong, healthy and vibrant community to live in.

She notes they want to create stronger families and improve opportunities for healthy child development.

Tkachyk adds they want to create healthier and more productive individuals that will contribute to the community.

She says they want to make sure that they enhance feelings of safety and that people are being cared for.

Tkachyk says they are working on the plan in conjunction with Ignace, Wabigoon Lake First Nation, Machin and Eagle Lake First Nation.

The Dryden Regional Health Centre has assigned a facilitator to guide the strategy, with consultations scheduled to begin next month.

Tkachyk says given the strength of their committee, the support of the City and the support of surrounding communities, she is predicting serious change in how poverty, addictions, mental health and homelessness are being addressed.
