Confederation College’s partnership with the Regional Food Distribution Association (RFDA) has received a boost from The Molson Foundation.
The partnership sees Culinary Management students prepare a variety of meals that are distributed through the RFDA’s network of food banks and community organizations.
“Confederation College is committed to fostering meaningful community partnerships that create real-world learning opportunities for our students,” said President Michelle Salo. “Through this initiative, our Culinary Management students are honing their skills and making a difference by addressing food insecurity in our region.”
The foundation’s $25,000 donation will allow the program to purchase ingredients expanding meal production.
“The Molson Foundation is proud to support initiatives that strengthen communities and provide essential resources to those in need,” said Andrew Molson. “By investing in programs like this, we are helping to ensure that students gain valuable experience while positively impacting food security in Northwestern Ontario.”
The initiative will continue throughout the academic year, with students preparing meals at Confederation College’s culinary labs before the RFDA distributes them.
The organizations hope to see the program grow and provide even more meals to those in need.
“Our partnership with the college allows us to continue providing homemade, nutritious meals to local and regional feeding programs and food banks,” said Tanner Harris, Food Services Manager at the RFDA. “Thanks to funding from The Molson Foundation, we can supplement donated food with additional ingredients to meet community needs. This initiative also gives students valuable hands-on experience in bulk meal preparation while giving back to the community.”
