Conservatives Attack Prime Minister On Gateway Pipeline Decision

Interim Conservative Leader Rona Ambrose is accusing the federal government of leaving First Nations out in the cold with the rejection of the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline.

She claims the Liberals have failed to follow through on $2-billion in job-creation agreements.

Ambrose says Indigenous leaders wanted to continue the dialogue with the government on the project.

She accuses Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of bailing on consultations and taking “hope and opportunity” away from First Nations.

Ambrose says the 31 First Nations and Metis partners involved in Gateway have stated they are “shocked and disappointed” at the decision.

Justin Trudeau countered that his party achieved in one year what the Conservatives couldn’t do during a decade in power, with Tuesday’s approval of two other pipeline projects.

He adds the decision reflects his election promise to grow the economy while protecting the environment.
