Construction Of New OPP Detachment To Begin Soon

Construction of a new detachment for the OPP in the Rainy River district could begin next month.

The province has awarded a contract to a southern Ontario firm who will also build eight others at the same time.

Community Safety and Correctional Services Minister Michael Tibollo says those detachments, including the one in Fort Frances, need to be modernized.

The province is spending $182-million dollars on the projects.

The Fort Frances detachment will be located near the town’s water tower and be ready for use by the fall of 2020.

OPP have been using the former Fort France Police station since taking over policing duties for the town more than 20 years ago.
