Cop Assaulted

A frightening situation for Provincial & Dryden Police Saturday nite.
A 911 call alerted the City Force to an incident on Highway 17 near the Mowhawk Gas bar.
When officers arrived, they found an OPP Constable on the ground, covered in blood & 2 men struggling with another person.
The Provincial Officer had pulled over a transport for what he thought would be a routine traffic stop when he was apparently attacked.
A 43 Orillia man faces charges of Assault causing bodily harm, Assaulting a person in aid of a Police Officer, Assualt Police, Resisting Arrest, Obstruction & Uttering Threats when he appears for a bail hearing Wednesday.
As for the 2 men who stopped to help the downed officer, police are extremely grateful.
1 of them suffered minor injuries & was treated & released Saturday nite while the OPP member was let out Sunday.
