Corrections Set Strike/Lockout Deadline

January 10 is the date set for a strike or lockout for Ontario corrections workers.

Their union says a conciliators report was issued by the Ministry of Labour earlier this week, to say a collective agreement cannot be reached between the province and the corrections division. The deadline comes 17 days after that report is received.

Talks are not scheduled between the union and the government, but OPSEU officials say their hope is that the employer will bargain seriously before workers hit the picket lines.

An earlier tentative agreement was rejected by 67 per cent in late November.
