The tax rate for Domtar is going up.
Dryden Council has approved a 15% tax increase for the large industrial sector.
The hike has been signed off by the Ontario Ministry of Finance.
Treasurer Adrienne Bodnarchuk says the decision comes from the recent Municipal Property Assessment Corporation ruling on the Domtar Mill.
MPAC reduced the value of the Domtar mill this year to $14-million from $50-million.
Bodnarchuk says the ruling has resulted in serious financial hardship for the community.
Bodnarchuk says the decision is one of many paths the Municipality is unveiling itself in terms of exploring possible mitigation towards the hardships the City is currently under.
