Council Approves Sale Of DMTS

Dryden Council has unanimously approved the sale of DMTS and Dryden Mobility.
Effective October 22, Tbaytel will have full ownership of the wireless services and Bell Alliant will take over DMTS landline and internet on January 1, 2013.
Mayor Craig Nuttall says he can vouch for all councilors by saying it had to be done because the city can’t afford to spend any more money.
Nuttall said the city was losing $300,000 a month from the services.
However every councilor was appreciative of all the hard work employees have done for the company and the community.
Councilor Mary Trist said the thought of people losing jobs “makes me sick”.
Bell Alliant has said they are looking at hiring DMTS employees.
Bell Alliant has purchased DMTS for $4.5-million, while it is still unknown the offer Tbaytel has made for the mobility side.
Nuttall adds that the money they receive from the sale, as well as the savings, will go towards the city’s debt, but council will still look where cuts can be made.
There will be two tower locations sold, one in Wabigoon and the other in Southworth Township.
The equipment for Bell is already in place, and as a part of the agreement, they will lease the location inside city hall for one dollar a day for 10 years.
