Dryden Council has agreed to form a so-called “working group” to meet with concerned business owners.
Mayor Craig Nuttall hand picked the working group members last night at a special Council meeting and notes he’s anxious to meet with the business group.
The two sides will sit down Tuesday morning to determine a mandate.
Nuttall will be joined by Councilor’s Ken Moss and Sid Wintle along with a City staff member.
Nuttall doesn’t believe the City is giving this group special privileges.
He stresses his door is open to everyone.
A select group of citizens and business leaders met behind closed doors back in June to discuss the current tax situation and what can be done.
They came to Council last month and asked for the formation of a committee to work alongside Council and make certain recommendations.
There are still some concerns at the table that this “working group” will parallel the work being done on an official review and tie up more staff time.
The are also some questions about a division between members of the business community.
Nuttall says he doesn’t believe this move will create a rift.
Nuttall says this group came to Council first and is being proactive.
He adds he hasn’t heard from the Chamber of Commerce for two-and-a-half years and notes he doesn’t know what to lobby for on their behalf.
Nuttall says his doors are always open to Chamber reps.
