The Dryden Youth Soccer Club has an ally as it continues to look for funding to build a multi-use facility at Rotary Park.
Council has agreed in principle to some form of financial break after Gary Nickle approached them Monday night in order to improve his chances of securing Ontario Trillium funding.
Nickle says he has drafted a $113,000 funding application, but has been told that projects under $100,00 grand have a better chance of approval.
Nickle asked Council to consider reducing water and sewer rates for the proposed building by $14,000, or provide in-kind support in the same amount.
Council will decide the exact form of assistance at its meeting next Monday.
Councillor Mary Trist says having a full service soccer field will help attract tournaments to the community.
Trist says it will help Dryden become a “Hub” community.
She says supporting local sports is important as it will have a huge payoff in the long run for local youth and adults.
Trist calls it an “investment in our future.”
The proposed $313,000 facility will include washrooms, a warm environment for youth and spectators as well as a kitchen unit.
Some on Council are concerned about who will be maintaining the building but, Nickle stresses that can be figured out after they receive the necessary funding.
