Council Votes on DMTS; One Vote Against Plan

DMTS isn’t going anywhere.
That’s the message Dryden Council is sending now that it’s publicly supported the ‘Retain and Growth’ strategy for the Municipally owned telephone system.
Councilor Mike Wood called for the open vote Monday night, noting it was an important step.
Wood says the City must endorse the plans of DMTS and Dryden Mobility.
He notes competitors will continue to look for market share and that’s why Council must do everything to protect and grow its asset.
According to a report to Council, TBay Tel is close to completing a fibre cable system project
City Manager Joe van Koeverden wasn’t able to provide many details about the strategy.
Van Koeverden says they are investigating several options for the future of DMTS.
Van Koeverden notes they are working with a consultant to grow and expand the Municipally owned telephone system.
He adds he’s in regular meetings with DMTS to analyze the 2011 revenues and expenses.
Councilor Ken Moss was the only one to vote against the resolution.
Moss wouldn’t comment on his decision.
