A new year brings a new scam in northwestern Ontario.
Provincial Police say scammers are now using phone numbers associated to a courthouse to make the public believe that the courts are phoning them.
The most recent reports come from Fort Frances.
OPP say the fraudsters are trying to get personal information by claiming to be a government official.
Police stress the Courthouse will not call and ask for personal and banking information as well as your social insurance number.
They also don’t collect money on behalf of the Canada Revenue Agency.
