The Northwestern Health Unit is reporting two recent COVID cases in the Rainy River district have come back as variants of concern.
Officials say they are confirmed Alpha variants.
It’s not known how the Alpha variant entered the region.
The variant was first discovered in the United Kingdom and is said to be 50 percent more transmissible.
