COVID Didn’t Slow Down Dryden Library

A number of success stories coming from the Dryden Public Library despite pandemic restrictions.

Staff were forced to adapt to the lockdown and still serve the community.

Library Board Chair Matthew Benson believes they managed to weather the COVID storm with Curbside Pickup, Virtual Programming, Take Home Craft Kits, Online Library Card Registration, Flipster Online Magazines and Online Language Learning Software.

Benson says the library managed to sign-up 156 new cardholders.

“During COVID we found a lot of people borrowing materials at a higher rate than maybe hadn’t been borrowed in the past. Things like downloadable eBooks, other digital media, movies and the certainly the Flipster.”

Benson adds, “I think a lot of people were quite intrigued by this and maybe hadn’t had a library card in the past. Saw how easy it was to make a request online and have a library card ready for them. So it was a big success!”

He notes the shutdown also allowed staff to install their long awaited new shelving

Other 2020 highlights:

-14,661 eBooks, Audiobooks and Online Magazine’s Borrowed
-400+ Curbside Pickup Orders Filled
-4,356 Social Media Interactions (Likes, Shares, Comments)
-592 Take Home Kits Distributed

Benson believes a number of these new features can be carried over when the library returns to more regular operations.

The Dryden Public Library will be allowed to reopen Wednesday at 25% capacity.
