CPKC mechanics vote in favour of strike action

Hundreds of mechanics at Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) railway could soon be off the job.

Unifor announced Tuesday that members have voted 99 per cent in favour of strike action.

The more than 1,200 unionized members work in CPKC’s mechanical shops across the country.

“This strike mandate shows the strength and determination of CPKC workers to achieve a fair deal,” Unifor National President Lana Payne said in a news release.

“Members are united in their demands for job security and work ownership, fair wages, and improved working conditions.”

Strike action could begin as early as 12:01 a.m. ET on Jan. 29 if a deal is not reached by that time.

Negotiations between the union and CPKC are set to resume from Jan. 24 to 29.
