Cranky Bear Wakes Up But is Shot

Residents of a Kenora neighbourhood are upset after police officers
fired over a dozen shots at a bear.
The bear had been hit by tranquillizer darts but charged police,
at which point they fired.
But they also took shots at the bear as it fled, leading some
residents not aware of the circumstances to believe a gun-fight was
going on.
Kenora police say residents weren’t warned because officials
hadn’t expected the situation to go awry.
It’s believed the bear, weighing more than 200 kilograms, had spent the
winter hibernating in the crawl space of a nearby home before awakening last
week.
