The Canadian Union of Public Employees is set to release the results of the ratification vote on the tentative contract that was put to education workers two weeks ago.
It has called a media conference for later this morning.
The tentative agreement between the Council of Trustees’ Associations and the province ended a brief strike on November 20.
The agreement includes a one dollar an hour increase wage increase but no new money for additional staff.
The union was recommending workers accept the deal.
“My coworkers and I stood up to the Ford government to get a forced contract repealed as part of the anti-worker Bill 28,” says Laura Walton, educational assistant and president of CUPE’s Ontario School Boards Council of Unions (OSBCU) in a statement. “This tentative agreement is our first in 10 years to be freely bargained instead of forced on us with legislative interference. For the last week and a half, frontline education workers have been deciding if what’s in this tentative agreement is acceptable.”
The workers, which include school librarians, education assistants, secretaries and custodians have been working without a new contract since school started in September.
