Residents across the broadcast area are into “internet withdrawal” Saturday morning (Aug 9)
At about 8:30 last evening, internet service via Shaw Cable, DMTS and several other ISP’s disappeared.
A DMTS spokesperson advises that a train derailment caused a break in a fibre-optic ‘pipe’ that supplies service to many communities in the area. The damage resulted in loss of some long distance services as well as ATM service at numerous banks and stores in the area.
Bell Sympatico customers were apparently not affected, nor were customers of some others ISP’s in the area.
As of noon Saturday, there was no indication on when service would be restored.
