Dangerous And Impaired Driving Charges Issued By Sioux Lookout OPP

Provincial Police in Sioux Lookout are reporting a case of dangerous impaired driving on Highway 72.

Officers say they located a vehicle near Butterfly Lake on July 12 at around 12:40 pm and stopped the driver for travelling at a high speed in a dangerous manner.

Police then say they determined the driver was impaired and when told to step out of the vehicle, the driver then fled from police with two passengers.

OPP then say a short pursuit began but was cut short for public safety where the police set up a spike belt.

The vehicle was located at around 12:53 pm with the passenger in the driver’s seat who pulled over for the police.

Police say the original driver left the vehicle and began walking along Highway 72 and both the driver and passenger were arrested without incident.

A second female passenger was also arrested, but was found to not be involved and released unconditionally.

No injuries or damages were reported.

As a result of the investigation, 29 year old Garnet Sumner of Peguis, MB was charged with:

Driving While Ability Impaired
Care or Control over 80mgs
Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
Obstruct Peace Officer
Fail to Comply with Probation Order
Drive Motor Vehicle – No License
Fail to Stop for Police
Driving Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available
Race a Motor Vehicle – Excessive Speed

Also charged was 31 year old Allen Yerxa of Frenchman’s Head, ON with:

Driving While Ability Impaired
Care or Control over 80mgs
Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
Drive Motor Vehicle – No License
Driving Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available
Fail to Stop for Police

Both men are in custody until a bail hearing on Wednesday.
