Officials with the OPP and CP Rail are dealing with a 22 car derailment 45 kilometres east of Nipigon. The incident took place at around 11:20 this morning.
A Ministry of Environment spokesperson says that at least one of the cars is leaking propane. Police say a Hazmat Unit from CP Rail is being deployed to assess the leak before cleanup can start.
OPP has set up a perimeter around the affected area for safety reasons, and Highway 17 is closed from the junction of Hwy 11/17 in Nipigon to the Town of Schreiber.
The road is expected to be closed for approximately 24 hours.
No one is injured.
