Despite Cold Snap, January Milder Than Normal

January weather in Dryden was both milder and a lot less snowy than usual.

Geoff Coulson from Environment Canada says despite the cold spell over the last few days, our daily mean temperature was several degrees higher than usual.

“As of yesterday, we’re still running about seven degrees milder than usual,” says Coulson.

“The average temperature for January was -11.4 Celsius. The average temperature for January is -18.2.”

Coulson adds that while the weather overall has been usually mild, it certainly not uncommon.

“I only had to go back a couple of years to January of 2021 to find an even milder January, where the average temperature was -10.2. So we’ve have seen these mild January’s before, but it still does stand out when compared to the long term average.”

In terms of snow, we received just 3.8 centimeters, compared to the January normal of 27.5 centimeters.
