Details Released On Manhunt

A Dryden man is in custody following a lengthy manhunt Wednesday morning.

City Police received a call around 3:15 of a domestic aggravated assault at an Arthur Street residence and the accused fled the scene when officers arrived.

Inspector Anne Tkachyk says Derek John Kenny had an opportunity to return but left again when he noticed the police presence.

She says he made his way to a local business where he gained access to a building and barricaded himself in for two hours.

He was finally asked to leave the building after lengthy communication.

Tkachyk notes Kenny surrended to police without incident and he wasn’t armed at the time.

She says the man was in crisis, they didn’t know what to expect, and didn’t know if he had a weapon.

Tkachyk says they had to control the situation and protect the community and that’s was why the downtown core was locked down.

Kenny faces one charge but officers are now talking to witnesses as the case is ongoing.

The manhunt was carried out by Dryden Police, Provincial Police, the SWAT team and the K-9 Unit.
