DHS Student Recommendations For New Year

The new high school year starts Wednesday but the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board is already receiving input on how to proceed.

Emma Gardner is a Student Trustee from Dryden High School and she has presented a list of three ideas for the board to consider.

“An online assessment for students about the new COVID-19 protocols. This would be after a couple of months. Like a Google Forms of: How they feel about it? What they would change? How is it affecting them? Any obstacles that have come up?”

Gardner is also recommending a specific follow-up plan for Indigenous students to determine current obstacles and solutions.

The third recommendation from Gardner is a recognition ceremony for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women’s Day on May 5th.

“The event would go through the entire day and it would be a presentation/memorial for all Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. If I would be able to get guest speakers.”

Gardner adds she also believes a self-defence workshop would be beneficial, with a school wide discussion at the end of the day.
