The rate of diabetes cases has reached epidimic porportions in Northwestern Ontario but there is hope.
That from Dr. Stewart Harris who is the keynote speaker at the first Northwest Regional Diabetes Conference in Dryden.
He has been studying Sandy Lake First Nation in Ontario, site of the third highest rate of diabetes in the world.
Harris says the good news is the disease can be prevented at an early stage.
