Work to clean up old diesel sites in Pikangikum has wrapped up.
Englobe, an engineering company, helped rehabilitate the soil from the diesel generators the community used to use.
Englobe, spokesperson Brandon MacKay says they built over two kilometers of roads as part of the project.
“Construct a soil treatment facility within the town to deal with hydrocarbon impacted soils that originates from fuel tanks or from the generator stations that were part of the town, prior to connected to the grid,” MacKay explains.
“We re-did a section of road within the community, along with remediating, so essentially excavating and then treating the soil.”
Pikangikum was the first of 17 communities to be connected to the transmission line constructed by Wataynikaneyap Power.
