The Pikangikum First Nations School may have to shut its doors because mould has driven away many of its teachers.
The First Nation says it has seen almost all the non-local teachers leave the community because of mould growing in the teachers’ residences.
As a result, officials say less than half of the school’s elementary programs are running, and none of the secondary school programs are in operation.
Since Monday, only 15 per cent of the school’s 732 students have been able to attend classes.
Community leaders are scrambling to find ways to reopen the secondary school programs, but they say the school may have to close down, jeopardizing the school year for hundreds of students.
