A piece of equipment is being blamed for the massive system failure that knocked out telephone service to all DMTS Customers including 911 lines yesterday.
DMTS General Manager Peter Gillis says they were using a system that had the capability of isolating the entire plant and shut it down.
Gillis is confident that the problem has been fixed for good.
He says staff received help from Bell Canada and other departments to make sure the City was back on-line.
The outage knocked out all land lines, cell, internet and interact service for about an hour.
Meantime, the outage forced the City to implement emergency procedures.
Municipal staff, Police and Fire personnel were all out patrolling the streets for those who needed assistance.
City Manager Arie Hoogenboom says he was pleased with the way things unfolded and says everyone knew their job.
The Emergency plan was re-tooled following the chlorine leak at the Weyerhaeuser Mill 2 years ago.
