Domtar In Dryden Supporting Forest Learning Program

Domtar in Dryden is helping to teach kids from Kindergarten to Grade 2 about nature and the forest.

The company has provided a grant to allow Keewatin Public School to offer forest programming, becoming the first Keewatin-Patricia District School Board school to become Forest Accredited.

Teachers will receive some training in May to get ready for the launch of the program in the Fall.

Instructor Anna Percy says they are excited by the possibilities, stating it will extend their learning and children’s learning of the forest and environment.

She adds it fits nicely with current initiatives at the school.

As part of the initiative, they will establish a new outdoor learning area based on earth, water, wind and fire.

She says it will provide children with the ability to explore and learn outside in a space designed to foster their learning.

Domtar Spokesperson Bonny Skene says the innovative approach to education is a good fit with their values and longstanding efforts to support youth in their understanding of sustainability concepts.

Skene says they are pleased to support the development of knowledge of both staff and students.
