Domtar Predicting Loss In Second Quarter Earnings

Domtar says it expects to post an operating loss of between $30-$35-million when it reports its second-quarter results later this month.
Domtar says factors contributing to the loss include a litigation settlement charge of $49-million and closure and restructuring costs of $18-million.
President John Williams says in a press release that the company had unusually high costs due to significant planned maintenance and delayed restarts in their pulp mills.
Williams notes that he’s confident that Domtar will return to more normalized productivity levels by the end of the third quarter.
