If you plan on collecting firewood, you need a licence.
Michelle Nowak with the Ministry of Natural Resources says legislation is in place to sure the effective management of the provincial Crown forest, which protect their long term health.
Folks are required to have a Licence to Harvest Forest Resources for Personal Non-Commercial Use, also known as a Personal Use Fuelwood Licence.
Nowak says it’s important to review the conditions of your licence, as the type of wood and areas you may harvest from can vary.
The penalty for illegally harvesting fuelwood can reach up to but no more then $10,000.
Licences are valid from April 1st to March 31st and can be purchased at any time of the year through any of the regional MNR offices.
