Dr. Mark Dahmer passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener after a long and courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 55.
Beloved husband of 32 years to Linda Dahmer (nee Fobel). Cherished and devoted father of Lauren, Kyla (Real Tetrault), Tessa and Joshua. Dear son of Jack Dahmer (Judith) and the late Carol Dahmer (nee Fox). Loving brother of Doug (Nancy), Meribeth Barron (Bob) and Carol Anne Uhrig. Survived by brothers and sistcrs-in-law; Richard Fobel (Maribeth), Doris Akitt (Rod) and Moni Capindale (Dave) and many aunts, uncles,
nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his father and mother-in-law Arthur and Lydia Fobel.
Mark was born in Orillia, Ontario, and moved to Kitchener at the age of 11. He and Linda were married in 1981, and he graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1983. They moved to Dryden in 1986 where he began to work for the Dingwall Medical Group as a family physician. They welcomed their first born in July, 1987 and never looked back! What began as a two year contract became a lifelong commitment to Dryden and its people. His ultimate goal was sharing Jesus with as many people as possible, and his concern for patients’ spiritual as well as their physical well being set him apart. He received the prestigious Council Award from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario in 2011. He held a number of positions including the Medical Director at Patricia Gardens, the Head of Emergency Department, and Lead Physician at the Dingwall Clinic. He was also a very active member of his Church where he acted as Head Elder or Chairman as well as helping with youth, leading Bible studies and cooking as part of the men’s breakfast group. He loved life in the small town environment, especially its access to water. He loved downhill skiing, sailing, boating, waterskiing, as well as golfing, squash, curling, volleyball, and walking his beloved dogs before his illness made it impossible for him to participate. He also had a great love for travel, and developed a great fondness for cruising.
A Memorial Service will be held at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, on Friday September 13 at 11:00 am. with Pastor James Wood officiating. Reception to follow. Cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Our Saviour Lutheran Church- Building Fund would be appreciated by the family.
