Changes to the bylaw to allow for more residential development in the downtown core is one of the key points in Dryden’s draft official and zoning by-law plan.
The long-term plan was unveiled at a public meeting Tuesday.
Meridian Consulting Spokesperson Jim Dyment says the plan allows for residential property, bungalows or small apartments on the waterfront off Van Horne.
Dyment says they have continued to allow for some commercial and tourism development, but notes residential hits the target market on the head.
The Dryden Development Corporation had residential units in mind for the property, but also had a Hotel, RV Park and Convention Centre in its final vision.
Changes to the bylaw will also allow for roughly 500-residential units in the Dickson Road and Cooks Landing area as well as east of Mary Avenue.
The plan must be approved by the Province and Council is not expected to see a final version until next January or February.
Dyment says the strategy ensures that Dryden is prepared for growth in the next 20-years.
The plan is now available on-line at www.dryden.ca.
