Randy Russell has put the Dryden Eagles Boys High School Hockey team in a position to possibly play in the championship final at the Dingwall Ford-Goal Post-Best Western Plus tournament.
Russell fired a desperation shot from centre ice into an empty net with 0.1 seconds left to give the Eagles a memorable 4-3 win over the St. Paul’s Crusaders Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders pulled the goalie for an extra attacker needing a win to keep their first place hopes alive.
Russell also opened the scoring for Dryden.
Jacob Lugli scored with four minutes remaining to tie the game, while Evan Armit also found the back of the net.
The Eagles will now play the waiting game to see where they will finish.
First place is between Dryden and Morris.
The Manitoba team is on the ice against Beaver Brae and the Eagles need a Broncos win to clinch top spot.
