Atikokan Township Council is considering dredging the Atikokan River as a measure to reduce flooding in the community.
Mayor Dennis Brown says a local resident recently approached the township about the idea suggesting that soil and silt has built up over the years in the river.
Brown says discussions have taken place with the province to help out with funding.
Earlier this summer, Atikokan experienced its worst-ever flooding when more than 200 millimetres of rain drenched the area in just a couple of days.
