A Dryden resident says the City can be a leader by banning the use of
plastic retail bags.
Mary Trist recently asked Council to enact a By-Law, with Council open
to the idea.
Gwen Kurz says major chains and businesses must be on-side with the
plan and public consultation is needed first.
Kurz says the concept is great and credits youth activist Michelle Arsenault.
27 Dryden businesses were convinced on Earth Day to temporarily ban
plastic bags.
Some on Council are suggesting a phase-in bylaw to give businesses time to
adjust.
