A change in direction appears imminent in Dryden.
Council is embracing a draft economic strategic plan that still needs final endorsement from the Dryden Development Corporation.
Acting Mayor Martin MacKinnon sits on the DDC Board of Directors and notes it’s time to take action.
MacKinnon says economic development has slipped in the community due to financial restraints.
However, he stresses it’s time to take immediate action on the issue.
MacKinnon notes the next step is determining how they will drive economic development and who will oversee the portfolio.
Roger Valley says Council must take some risks and step up to the plate.
Valley says Dryden has never paid much attention to tourism, thanks in part to the former success of the mill.
He notes they need to change their way of thinking and believes residents want to see the community grow.
Both say the City must “free up some coin” to ensure economic needs are met.
