Dryden Council Recognizes Veterans On Remembrance Day

Members of Dryden City Council are thanking our Veterans and those who continue to fight for our freedom.

Everyone on Council took time Monday at their by-weekly meeting to express their thoughts and feelings.

A passionate Shayne MacKinnon said he thinks about his father who carried a Bretton gun halfway across Europe at the age of 18.

He says it’s important today to reflect on why our veterans decided to fight for our country.

“That we would have the freedom to disagree or agree without fear or favour and to build a better community and country.”

MacKinnon ended by saying “To all those Veterans…Thank You. And To those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom…We shall remember them.”

Norm Bush added his two parents both served in the military in the Second World World.

His mom was a Sergeant in the Army at the age of 18 and his dad was on a landing craft on D-Day bringing soliders over to Europe and facing all that they faced on D-Day.

Bush states “I’ve had a long appreciation for my parents and many of the other Veterans in town who they got to know when they moved to Dryden. I think we could only imagine their sacrifices but from my perspective we just need to take the appropriate time on November 11 and remember them.”

Remembrance Day will be virtual this year but you can watch the Dryden ceremony on Shaw Cable 10 starting at 10:00am.

Legion members will lay the wreaths at the cenotaph and the Royal Canadian Legion will be open from 11:30am to 4:00pm for coffee, refreshments and fellowship.

Space will be limited and face masks are required.
