The small toe has been dipped in the water in terms of the future of policing in Dryden.
Council has asked staff to bring forward a report on the OPP costing process at its regular meeting Monday.
Chief Administrative Officer Ernie Remillard notes a special meeting is set for May 23rd where Council will discuss, debate and vote on whether to approach the OPP to formally submit a quote.
He stresses no decisions have been made and notes the City continues to look at all options to return to financial stability.
Remillard stresses the request is being made entirely for financial considerations and is no way a reflection of the quality of service currently being provided by Dryden Police.
He calls the Service outstanding, emphasizing the dedication and work officers put in day-in, day-out.
Remillard notes it could take 12 to 18 months before any proposal is put in front of Council.
Remillard says any potential decisions in the future will ensure that public safety will not be compromised.
He adds staff will work closely with Council, the Police Board and the Chief of Police on the process and ensure any report compares “apples to apples”.
