The Dryden & District Agricultural Society Fall Fair begins this Thursday! The 4H Beef Club will be very active at the Fall Fair. Ramona and Sophie Kreise, members of the 4H Beef Club, were CKDR’s on-air guests Monday morning…….
Listen to the interview here:
Or read the dialogue below……
Ramona, how long have you been with the 4-H Beef Club?
“I’ve been in the Beef Club for eight years now.”
And how are those early mornings going for you?
“They’re good. Sometimes we don’t wake up as early though.”
Taking care of the animals is one of the things that obviously you have to do for being a member of the 4-H Beef Club.
Sophie, how old are you?
“I am 14.”
Talk about caring for the animals before what is going to be happening this week. Talk about the process, what you’ve been enjoying.
“We feed them every morning and we’ve been washing them to get them ready and clipping them.”
Let’s get into what is going to be happening at this year’s Dryden and District Agricultural Society Fall Fair this week for the 4-H Beef Club. Ramona, let’s start with you. What is happening on Thursday this week, August the 20th?
“This Thursday, all our animals will be arriving at noon. So we will have a weigh-in at four o’clock where all our 4-H animals get weighed and you can come and watch to see what their final weights are going to be for Achievement Day.”
I think that would be kind of fun before they actually get weighed. Maybe hard to judge especially if you’re not familiar with the animals, the breed, but guessing the weight might be kind of fun for the entire family to be watching and taking a crack at that. Let’s turn things over to you, Sophie. And what is happening on Friday, August the 21st for the 4-H Beef Club?
“On Friday, it is our show for the 4-H animals and the 4-H members. It starts at 12. The showmanship classes, cow-calf pairing, and the auction, which is at six o’clock, and awards as well.”
Talk about the auction, the bidding.
“Local businesses in Dryden, we invite them with a letter and they come and support us and bid. We have 13 steers this year to auction off.”
So that’s Friday. What is happening on Saturday?
“On Saturday, it’s our open show, so anyone is welcome. We have the Thunder Bay Beef Club coming and Emo likes to participate too by coming in and showing their selection of cattle. And we have cow-calf pairing showing and herd classes along with jackpot heifers.”
It’s three full days for the 4-H Beef Club and you can watch all of that activity and perhaps, yes, be one of those who is going to bid during the steer auction happening on Friday. So Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, the 4-H Beef Club very, very busy at this year’s Dryden Fall Fair. Ladies, anything else before we let you go?
“We have our milk booth, milkshakes and ice cream cones for sale. Our flavors for milkshakes are vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, and rum and butter. Don’t forget to stop by and grab one.”
Can’t go without a milkshake from the Dryden Fall Fair. Ramona and Sophie Kriese getting ready for this year’s 4-H Beef Club activities. Thank you both.
“Thank you for having us. And thank you to all our sponsors from last year who bought our steers and also just supported us and came out. Thank you!”
