Dryden Fire Service Responds To Gas Leak On Whyte Avenue

The Dryden Fire Service is reminding the public to be careful around natural gas meters while clearing snow.

Firefighters say they were dispatched along with Union Gas to a natural gas leak at 51 Whyte Avenue Sunday evening at around 9:05pm.

The Fire Service assisted Police in evacuating buildings on Whyte Avenue, Duke Street and Princess Street while also entering the building to ensure there was no build up of natural gas.

Eventually Union Gas secured the meter and were able to shut off the gas leak.

Fire Chief Ryan Murrell says that damage to the gas meter caused by heavy snow, ice buildup or snow removal is suspected to be the cause of this leak.

One pumper, one rescue, two incident commanders and four Dryden Police personnel responded to the incident for a total of thirteen public safety personnel.
