The Dryden Fire Service is reminding residents to be safe when cooking.
This comes after a fire on Monday March 13th after a pot was left unattended on a hot stove.
Firefighters say they responded to a 911 call at a residence on St. Charles Street.
They say as they arrived, both floors of the two story building were full of smoke.
Officials say three people were evacuated and the structure was safely ventilated over the next 30 minutes.
Northern EMS also attended the scene to treat occupants for smoke inhalation.
The Dryden Fire Service has released some tips to help residents make sure they avoid kitchen fires in their future.
These tips include:
· Watch what you are cooking – especially if you are using oil or high temperatures. If you must leave for any reason, turn off the stove.
· Wear tight-fitting or rolled up sleeves when using the stove. Loose, dangling clothing can easily catch fire.
· Keep a proper fitting lid near the stove. If a pot catches fire, slide the lid over the pot and turn off the stove.
· Never attempt to move a burning pot. This could lead to burn injuries and spread the fire. Call 9-1-1 and ask for the fire department.
· Never use water to extinguish a grease or cooking oil fire.
