This past Monday eligible Canadian voters went to the polls during the Federal Election.
Meanwhile more than 900,000 students from 5900 Canadian schools cast a mock ballot as a part of the Student Vote Canada program.
Dryden High School was one of the schools that participated.
As Ms. Palermo notes below her DHS Grade 12 Law and Grade 10 Civics classes were involved in the process.
“Grade 12 Law and Grade 10 Civics classes successfully wrapped up Student Federal Vote 2025 in collaboration with Elections Canada’s Student Vote.
Student Vote is a parallel election for students under the voting age, coinciding with official election periods and is a program run by Civix.
CIVIX is dedicated to enhancing civic education for school-aged youth. They believe that civic education is the irreplaceable foundation of a robust and successful democracy. Their approach to civic education is about providing opportunities for students to experience their democracy first-hand rather than by reading about it in a textbook. Since 2003, CIVIX has worked with educators to provide experiential learning opportunities to help millions of school-aged youth develop the habits of active and informed citizenship.
CIVIX programming introduces students to the concepts of democracy and elections, improves awareness about government and the role of elected representatives, and teaches students how to participate effectively as informed and responsible citizens in their community.
