Most retailers in Sunset Country are closed on this Victoria Day holiday.
However, Canada Safeway would like to see that change in Dryden.
Safeway has approached Dryden City Council about opening its Dryden store on holidays such as today, along with Canada Day, Labour Day and Thanksgiving.
The communities of Kenora and Fort Frances, which have been designated as tourist areas, already allow such holiday openings.
A Safeway spokesperson believes Dryden is equally attractive to tourists and says its customers expect services to be available on holidays.
On behalf of all retailers, Safeway is asking city council to reconsider the operating restrictions it currently places on businesses on holidays.
The city plans to examine the issue further before making a decision.
