Dryden Is A Top Spot For Organ Donors

Dryden is one of the top areas in the province when it comes to registered organ donors.
Forty one percent of residents have signed up to donate.
However Ronnie Gavsie, President and CEO of Trillium Gift of Life Network, says the need of organs is much greater then the actual supply.
She adds that every three days, someone dies waiting for an organ.
The most needed one is the kidney, and second is the liver.
Gavsie adds that they can be donated when the person is still alive, because humans only need one kidney to live and livers regenerate themselves and can do so in another body.
On the larger scale, last year there were 1,053 procedures done in the province, which is an 11 per cent increase from 2011.
However, only 22 per cent of Ontario residents are registered organ donors.
