Dryden Looking At Allowing ATV’s On Certain Street

The City of Dryden is looking at revamping its bylaw on the use of All-Terrain vehicles in the City.
The changes would allow the use of ATV’s on certain City streets and roads.
Councilor Martin MacKinnon says the changes will allow someone to go down the street in the winter and plow a driveway or allow someone to head down to the dock for some fishing.
The bylaw on ATV use hasn’t been updated since 1988.
Certain rules would still be in place including that the insured four-wheel vehicles would be required to drive under 20 kilometres per hour within city limits.
Helmets will be required for ATV street use and riders won’t be able to cross railway tracks, the overpass or underpass.
Operation of an ATV would also be prohibited from 1 am to 6 am.
Not everyone is on board with the proposed changes.
Councilor Ken Moss says police have enough to do and don’t have time to enforce ATV use in the community.
Shayne MacKinnon is calling for more information on safety and injury statistics.
He’s suggesting public consultation.
The Dryden Police Service has already endorsed the changes.
